This week, we’ve decided to spend a little time exploring options to help you (and all of us) stay sane during lockdown.
Like we said in our last post, being away from our friends and family and having our normal lives taken away gets more difficult with each passing day. And even with all of the outlets and platforms we have available to help us connect with others, sometimes we need to connect with ourselves on a deeper level first in order to maintain a sense of sanity.
We’ve gathered our favorite resources below to help you prioritize your mental health even as it becomes increasingly difficult to do so.
Get Your Body Moving
One thing we’ve always known is that exercise has the power to boost your mood and relieve stress. While venturing outside can be pretty scary right now, going for a walk or run around your neighborhood is a great way to get fresh air and a change of scenery without the risk of close contact with others.
There are also great online resources to help you get moving, even if you’re doing so in your living room:
Don’t be shy! Move the coffee table to the side, grab a bottle of water, throw on some workout clothes (you can do it, they’re not too different from the sweats you’ve been living in) and raise that heart rate. You’ll feel a million times better once you do and we promise that glass of wine will still be waiting for you after you’ve gotten your sweat on.
Relax Your Mind
With all of our days now spent at home, this is a great time to take advantage of the slower pace we’re all being forced to accept. Dedicate a few minutes of your day to relaxing your brain and increasing mindfulness with these resources:
Yoga and meditation have both been proven to enhance mental health, ease pain and anxiety, and improve quality of sleep.
? We’ve been thinking of you as we navigate these uncertain times. We're feeling it too, and we wanted to share some of the tools we're using to take care of our minds and stay grounded. Please share with anyone who might benefit. https://t.co/yEdOLSyb3X pic.twitter.com/wHvQZtHQba

Take A Break with Some Entertainment
Sometimes all we really need to feel sane is a good laugh, or just a break from the news. Here are some options for when you’re craving an escape:

New episode of Staying In with Emily & Kumail, “In the Weirds,” is now up. We talk what to call this moment, our coronavirus related dreams/nightmares & I finally convince Emily to give me a haircut. As always, podcast is free; all proceeds go to charity. https://t.co/qjhrTjW0f3

We hope one of the resources listed above can help you stay calm, centered, and healthy during this unprecedented time.
While this pandemic surely cannot end soon enough, there are ways to make the most of our unfortunate situation, and one thing is for sure: we will all come out of this with a little more gratitude for the things we have, the people we know, and the beautiful world we live in.
